About the role
The Special Purpose Program Lead Teacher leads a specialized program at Dyer Elementary serving students with significant and complex disabilities whose needs require intensive, individualized instruction in a structured, often self-contained setting. In addition to providing specially designed instruction, the Lead Teacher oversees daily program operations, directs and mentors a team of educational technicians, and coordinates a multidisciplinary team to ensure students receive a cohesive, high-quality program in the least restrictive environment appropriate to their needs.
Responsibilities
- Provides specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of students with significant and complex disabilities
- Oversees daily program operations, including lesson planning, student progress monitoring, and communication with families and other professionals
- Directs and mentors a team of educational technicians to support students' learning
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations related to special education
Requirements
- Maine DOE certification: Endorsement 286 (Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities, PreK–12) required
- Endorsement 282 (Teacher of Children with Disabilities, K–8) preferred
