About the Role
The Special Populations Professional Development (PD) Specialist provides professional learning for school-based administration and special populations staff in compliance with all requirements related to special populations. This position requires 25% travel within all Second Mile Schools.
Responsibilities
- Provides professional development to school-based administrators and teachers on ESE/EC and ESOL programming and compliance.
- Designs and develops training program materials including project plans, outlines, presenter guides, participant materials, and evaluations.
- Designs, develops, implements, and scales ESE/EC and ESOL professional development supported by research in best practices in education.
- Conducts regular meetings focusing on implementation of the professional learning model to ensure professional growth for ESE/EC and ESOL staff.
- Works collaboratively with staff to upload and create relevant content for asynchronous learning on the LMS.
- Collaborates with the Professional Development team and Operations Staff to determine training and development needs across all elements of school operations.
- Assists with new school activations and training by providing all needed training.
- Stays current on national, state, and local requirements, laws, and rules relating to ESE/EC and ESOL K-12 education and school operations.
- Provides professional development aligned to the ALS instructional model.
- Builds, maintains, and effectively communicates an integrated ESE/ESOL compliance framework capturing all regulatory requirements to which ALS/ALS schools are subject.
- Updates the SOM framework when there are changes to SOM, laws, rules, and contractual obligations.
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher in education.
- 3+ years of teaching experience in ESE/EC at the high school or middle school level.
- Experience working with ELL/ESOL population preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge of effective training practices in ESE/EC and ESOL education.
- Knowledge of blended learning pedagogy and education.
- Ability to deliver effective and engaging professional presentations.
- Ability for day and overnight travel to other sites/locations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Skilled verbal and written communication.
- Skilled teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Mastery of MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
