Special Mechanic - Welder
Roles And Responsibilities
- Conducts a variety of testing, repair, installation and maintenance tasks on equipment including engines, brake systems, suspension, steering, electronics, electrical systems, HVAC, transmission, and painting equipment.
- Must be able to solder, braze, gas weld steel, aluminum, cast iron, burn to size steel, and cast iron.
- Must be able to arc weld all metals with DC electric, AC electric, Mig, Tig, also can use a plasma cutter.
- Must have ability to layout own work, fabricate items as needed and assemble same.
- Must be able to weld in all positions and must be able to work with sheet metal.
- Must know and use all safety rules and regulations during welding operations.
- Must demonstrate ability in the proper use of tools, hydraulic pistons, come-a-longs, porta-powers, frame straightening devices, etc.
- Must be able to remove, replace and or align all body parts and components that are fastened on the bus (MCI, NABI, NEW FLYER, and coaches).
- Must have ability to fill and sand body parts.
- Must have ability to fill and sand fiberglass.
- Must be able to use and read parts manual and be able to fill out required forms.
- Must be able to complete daily time tickets accurately.
- Must keep area clean, uncluttered, and safe.
- Must follow established shop safety policies and procedures.
Education, Experience, And Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED, ASE certification a plus.
- Must have a Commercial Driver License (CDL) license or Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) at the time of hire.
- Must have five years' experience in the welding field.
- Be able to pass the pre-employment physical and background checks.
- Must be certified and able to supply copies of prior certifications and able to read blueprints, sketches, and drawings.
- Must be willing to work overtime when required.
