About the role

Join the San Diego State University Police Department and make a meaningful impact in our dynamic campus community! We are seeking experienced law enforcement professionals for part-time Special Event Officer roles.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol buildings and grounds by foot, bicycle, electric vehicle, motorcycle, and patrol car.
  • Protect students, faculty, staff, visitors, property, and facilities from accidents, harm, theft, vandalism, fire, and illegal entry.
  • Enforce state laws, local ordinances, and campus traffic/parking regulations; apprehend violators when necessary.
  • Control crowds and maintain order during special events or disturbances.
  • Respond to emergencies, provide first aid, and assist in evacuations when needed.
  • Guard property and facilities to deter crime and ensure safety.
  • Investigate incidents such as accidents, property damage, fires, thefts, and disturbances of the peace.
  • Gather evidence, make arrests, and appear in court as required.
  • Prepare clear, accurate reports on law enforcement and safety incidents.
  • Provide information, assistance, and positive engagement to the campus community, supporting the principles of community policing.

Qualifications

  • Current or retired peace officer with a California law enforcement agency. The last date of employment must have been within the last three years or have proof of requalification.
  • *CalPERS retirees must follow retired annuitant requirements as outlined by CalPERS.
  • Must meet current employment standards of the Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) and have completed POST approved Field Training program at home agency.
  • Active law enforcement officers are required to obtain authorization from their home agency Chief of Police/Sheriff authorizing them to work on a per diem/hourly basis for San Diego State University.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Valid California Driver’s License.

Compensation & Position Information

The pay rate for this position is up to $80 per hour. This recruitment will be used to establish a pool of candidates for current and future hourly, intermittent appointments.

Supplemental Information

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. San Diego State University is not a sponsoring agency for staff or management positions (e.g., H-1B visa). Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Offers of employment are contingent upon the presentation of documents that demonstrate a person's identity and authorization to work in the United States, which are consistent with the provisions of the Immigration Reform and Control Act. Education Code 89521 Requirements: Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. SDSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
