Compensation: $16–$18 per hour

About the Role

The Instructional Assistant is a non-certified support role within the Special Education Program, assisting both general education and special education resource classrooms. The assistant supports students across all campus settings under the direction of certified Special Education and General Education teachers. Additional duties may be assigned based on candidate experience and academy needs.

Responsibilities

  • Academic Support
    • Support students in small groups or one-on-one settings
    • Assist with assignments, homework, and projects
    • Adapt materials and provide modifications to help students learn
    • Help students understand and reinforce classroom rules
  • Behavior Support
    • Monitor student behavior to ensure safety and appropriate interactions
    • Implement behavior management strategies
    • Assist students in developing social skills and positive behaviors
    • Help de-escalate student behaviors and seek support from teachers as needed
    • Reinforce Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) concepts
  • Additional Support
    • Assist students with transitions and activities
    • Support personal hygiene needs (toileting, feeding, dressing)
    • Assist with mobility and adaptive equipment
    • Provide clerical support for the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Team
  • Additional Duties
    • Attend meetings and training sessions
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area
    • Foster a supportive and positive learning environment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or higher (associate’s degree or higher preferred)
  • Associate degree or 60 credit hours of higher education, or a passing score on an appropriate ADE assessment
  • Experience in special education (preferred)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interest in reading great books
  • U.S. work authorization required (OPT/CPT candidates accepted)
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching
  • May require moving or positioning equipment up to 15 pounds
