About the role
The position serves under the supervision of the school Supervisor of Intermediate Special Education and/or Director of Pupil and Special Education Services. The primary goal is to enhance the learning experience of students with special needs through specialized instruction and accommodations, while collaborating with general education teachers and coordinating with external agencies.
Responsibilities
- Provides specialized instruction and accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Collaborates with general education teachers to support students with disabilities.
- Conducts assessments, tests, and diagnostic evaluations to identify learning issues, social-behavioral needs, and recommends corrective procedures.
- Facilitates parent placement team (PPT) meetings and assists in developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Aids in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans for students.
- Coordinates with outside agencies and organizations to support students.
- Collaborates with administrators and teaching staff to understand individual students' abilities and needs.
- Accomplishes professional development by attending seminars, workshops, and maintaining professional relationships.
- Maintains accurate and complete record-keeping and provides student information as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Fosters family engagement in students' education and communicates effectively with students and parents.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate materials and equipment for instructional programs.
- Monitors, assigns, and directs paraprofessionals, tutors, and coaches.
Requirements
- Must possess CT certification (065) Comprehensive Special Education, Gr. PreK-12, or (165) Comprehensive Special Education, Gr. K-12.
- Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, and proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
