About the role

The position serves under the supervision of the Supervisor of Intermediate Special Education and/or Director of Pupil and Special Education Services at Sage Park Middle School. The primary purpose is to enhance the learning experience of students with special needs through specialized instruction and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provides specialized instruction and accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to address the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Conducts assessments, tests, and diagnostic evaluations to identify learning issues, social-behavioral needs, and recommends corrective actions.
  • Facilitates Parent Placement Team (PPT) meetings and assists in developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Assists in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans.
  • Coordinates with external agencies and organizations as necessary.
  • Collaborates with administrators and other teaching staff to understand individual students' abilities and needs.
  • Accomplishes professional development by attending seminars, workshops, and meetings.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records and communicates student information as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Fosters family engagement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate materials and equipment.
  • Develops, revises, and maintains instructional programs aligned with student IEPs.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills in managing a team of paraprofessionals, tutors, and coaches.

Requirements

  • Must possess CT certification (065) Comprehensive Special Education, Gr. PreK-12, or (165) Comprehensive Special Education, Gr. K-12.
  • ABA experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, and proven strategies for enhancing the educational experience of students with special needs.
  • Understanding of differentiated instruction tailored to various learning styles.
  • Experience with data information systems, data analysis, and the creation of action plans.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Proficiency in using computer networks and software applications.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capacity for self-evaluation and continuous professional growth.

Skills

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team of paraprofessionals, tutors, and coaches.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Windsor Board of Education and the Windsor Education Association.
