Special Education Teacher- Resource (Harborview Elementary)

Full-time special-education teaching position (1.0 FTE) at Harborview Elementary School, district-wide assignment. One-year contract for positions advertised August 1st or later.

About the role

The successful candidate will manage a student caseload on a special-education team and contribute to a dynamic, innovative program that enhances education across the school and district. The role requires awareness and use of multiple assessment forms and the ability to collaborate with colleagues in varied settings.

Responsibilities

• Manage a large caseload of students with diverse exceptionalities
• Apply current research and multiple teaching strategies tailored to diverse learners
• Implement behavior-management practices
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
• Engage with parents regarding student concerns

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education
• Valid Alaska teaching certificate with a special-education endorsement
• Recent experience managing large caseloads with a variety of exceptionalities
• Flexibility to work in multiple settings with colleagues
• Knowledge of current research and diverse teaching strategies
• Strong interpersonal and behavior-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent special-education teaching experience
• Understanding of IDEA requirements
