Special Education Teacher- Lower School (Part-time)
About the role
This is a part-time position and will be responsible for effective instruction and differentiation for students with learning and thinking differences. This position will be responsible for delivering instruction through the co-taught and small group setting, and will maintain a caseload of students for the purpose of overseeing learning plans and the provision of accommodations.
Responsibilities
- Creates, prepares, and implements strategies in the classroom that appeal to students with learning and thinking differences.
- Collaborates with peers to use and analyze data to plan individually and cooperatively for student success and achievement.
- Ensures full implementation of HCA Learning Plans for caseload students.
- Develops, monitors, and reviews the Learning Plan of each caseload student, annually or more often as needed.
- Challenges and supports each student’s learning by providing appropriate content and developing skills which address individual learning differences.
- Affords all students in achieving academic expectations and establishes high expectations for performance.
- Cooperates with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
- Notifies the administration of any policy he/she is unable to support.
- Maintains regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
- Maintains confidentiality of students and students’ records.
- Facilitates home-school communication through conferences, telephone calls, and written communication.
- Keeps students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of progress.
- Attends and participates in scheduled orientation, devotions, in-service retreat, committee meetings, faculty meetings, and staff development programs.
- Be punctual and reports to work as assigned.
- Knows the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.
- Maintains a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
- Supervises extra-curricular activities and organizations as assigned.
- Supports the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in subject area or related field.
- Valid Teaching Certificate w/ dual certification in content area and special education.
