About the role

Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate and implement programs of instruction that ensure students opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional and academic potential.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated.
  • Select and present materials required in the teaching assignment within the framework of the content limitations of state and system curriculum guides.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual social/emotional/academic needs, interests and abilities of assigned students.
  • Select and implement classroom technology which may relate to the use of audio, video, graphics, research technologies and other tools to facilitate learning.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show evidence of preparation upon request of Site Coordinator, Principal or designee.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provide adequate background information and materials when substitute teacher is to assume responsibilities.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by system or local school handbook.
  • Comply with all conditions stated in contract of employment.
  • Comply with the federal, state and local Board of Education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction.
  • Absides by the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Evaluates students with disabilities and provides recommendations for a prescriptive program.
  • Develops and implements data driven Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Makes appropriate changes in the student's education program as warranted.
  • Develops and implements Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with integrity and fidelity.
  • Develops and implements effective differentiated lesson plans based on the Georgia Performance Standards /Georgia Standards of Excellence, the LEAs required curricula and assessments and the GNETS Strategic Plan academic, behavioral and therapeutic requirements.
  • Provides crisis intervention and other therapeutic supports to students using Mindset techniques and protocols.
  • Participates in planning with other Treatment Team Members.
  • Attend all meetings and trainings as assigned by the Site Coordinator, Principal and/or designee, and the Director of Special Education.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information.
  • Serves as a member of the IEP Team, PBIS Team, and Student Support Team (MTSS).
  • Collaborates with general and special education teachers, related and secondary service providers and parents regarding the academic achievement, social/emotional learning and functional performance of assigned students.
  • Provides consultation to other staff members concerning the unique needs of students with disabilities and appropriate interventions.
  • Follows all procedural safeguards and documents adherence in an appropriate manner.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and state required certification for Special Education General and Adapted Curriculum.
  • Three or more years successful experience with students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with implementing successful classroom behavior management, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Experience with Infinite Campus student information system and online GOIEP platform is preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and direct the implementation of a comprehensive classroom instructional program for students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and competency in counseling and evaluating students with disabilities.
