Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. Creates a flexible program and learning environment that delivers specialized instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Creates an educational climate that promotes success, independence, a productive atmosphere, and provides students with encouragement, safety, and stimulation.
  • Completes weekly resource room lesson plans based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum that follows the New York State Education Department Learning Standards and addresses a student's IEP goals.
  • Creates an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and, when necessary, Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) for all students.
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to create lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students based upon their IEP.
  • Provides instructional support as a collaborative teacher while providing classroom accommodations based on the student's IEP requirements.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of subject matter, critical thinking, and individualized instruction.
  • Creates, implements, and shares effective behavior management techniques or plans.
  • Serves as a case manager for a group of special education students, coordinating their accommodations across content areas.
  • Attends regular department and grade-level meetings.
  • Communicates effectively with parents (through notebooks, phone calls, conferences, district meetings, etc.).
  • Completes weekly data collection trackers based on student goals with work samples as stipulated by the IEP (progress and/or in need of growth).
  • Completes Quarterly Progress Reports based on data collection.
  • Participates in and shares appropriate information at CPSE/CSE/Amendment meetings with school district representatives.
  • Maintains client confidentiality within HIPAA/FERPA and agency guidelines.

Requirements

  • Valid NYS certification in Special Education (Grades 1-6 or 7-12).
  • NYS fingerprint clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to motivate and instruct students.
  • Experience in at least one core content area (preferred).
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field; must obtain Master’s degree per NYSED guidelines.
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred.
  • NYS Permanent or Initial Certification in Special Education required.

Pay

Starting salary: $45,000. Competitive pay.

Schedule

Full-time, annual contract. Start date: September 1, 2026.
