About the role

Oswego Community Unit School District 308 is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students with specialized needs.

Responsibilities

• Support students with academic, behavioral, and health/hygiene needs as directed by Special Education Teachers.
• Assist students in achieving their goals and reaching their highest potential.
• Apply best practices for working with children and young adults with specialized needs.
• Show skill in providing general written and verbal guidance to specific work situations.
• Have the ability to lift and move up to thirty pounds without assistance or to assist with lifting and moving up to fifty pounds.

Requirements

• Desire to assist students with specialized needs.
• Knowledge (or the ability to obtain knowledge of) best practices for working with children and young adults with specialized needs.
• General skill in applying written and verbal guidance to specific work situations.
• Able to lift and move up to thirty pounds without assistance or to assist with lifting and moving up to fifty pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to pass a background check.

Skills

• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of special education techniques and strategies.
