About the role

Oswego Community Unit School District 308 is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students with specialized needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with academic, behavioral, and health/hygiene needs as directed by Special Education Teachers
  • Assist students in achieving their goals and reaching their highest potential
  • Apply best practices for working with children and young adults with specialized needs
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with other special education staff, teachers, and families to ensure student success
  • Assist with daily routines and activities, including but not limited to meal times, bathroom breaks, and transitions between activities
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of special education principles and practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Physical ability to lift and move up to thirty pounds without assistance or to assist with lifting and moving up to fifty pounds
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required for field trips)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred
  • Experience working with students with special needs
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in using technology and software relevant to special education
