Special Education Teacher Assistant

Essential Functions

• Aid in instruction and activities as assigned by the teacher.
• Assist with work activities.
• Create and adapt instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Support students with their assignments.
• Implement instructional strategies that respect individual differences, foster student achievement, and maintain supportive and inclusive environments.
• Participate in enhancing the effectiveness of the learning environment.
• Continuously grow professionally to meet changes in the position.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Supervision

• Supervise students in the cafeteria or at recess as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.

Qualifications

• Substitute teaching certificate is required.
• Either a minimum of sixty (60) college credit hours, or successful completion of the paraprofessional exam.
• Works well with children.
• Follows the instruction of the teacher(s) to whom the assistant is assigned.
• Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education.
• Excellent organizational skills, oral and written communication, time management, and telephone skills.
• Knowledge of computer systems and assistive technology.
