Job Summary

The Special Education Teacher Assistant at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School supports the classroom teacher in providing a structured, faith-filled learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This role assists in implementing instructional activities, accommodations, and behavioral supports to help students grow academically, socially, and spiritually in alignment with Catholic values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the teacher in delivering instruction and modifying activities to meet individual student needs
  • Provide one-on-one and small group assistance to reinforce skills and concepts
  • Aid in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and classroom accommodations
  • Help maintain a positive, structured classroom environment and support behavior management strategies
  • Maintain records of student progress and communicate observations to the teacher
  • Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and instructional materials
  • Support students with transitions, routines, and daily activities
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and specialists to support student success
  • Model and uphold Catholic values in all interactions with students and staff

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma is required; an associate degree or relevant coursework in education is preferred
  • Experience working with children, especially those with special needs, is preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and a caring demeanor are important qualities
  • A commitment to the mission of Catholic education is required
