Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare educational materials and displays for the classroom with the assistance of the classroom teacher.
  • Aid in keeping the classroom neat and orderly.
  • Help keep administrative records and reports organized.
  • Assist substitute teachers with classroom setup and management.
  • Manage inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
  • Support small group or individual learning activities as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist physically disabled students with tasks such as transferring to and from wheelchairs, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • Handle student behavior management, including crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students.
  • Take an interest in and assume responsibility for each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Oversee students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, during lunch, bus, and playground duty.
  • Advise the teacher on special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student information.
  • Enhance job skills through participation in staff development programs.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate Time & Effort documentation of program activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Capable of working with children with disabilities.

Education and/or Experience

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to set priorities. Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be competent in Microsoft Office applications and able to learn and use computer software as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment.

  • Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.
