Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instructional Strategies
- Work with students, parents, and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Design, write, and use instructional and therapeutic programs
- Ensure comprehension of learning styles and student needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on student IEPs
- Implement data-driven instructional activities
- Ensure compliance with IEP guidelines
- Use various media and techniques to meet student needs
- Manage teacher aides and volunteers
- Employ technology to strengthen the instructional process
- Growth and Development
- Evaluate student success through formal and informal testing
- Oversee or ensure personal care, medical care, and feedings
- Sponsor outside activities approved by the charter principal
- Support the mission of the charter
- Classroom Management
- Prepare classrooms to enhance learning and aid in student development
- Control student behavior and implement discipline plans
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on behavior management programs
- Collaborate with charter and external resources on student needs
- Ensure safety measures are taken
- Provide input on book, equipment, and material selection
- Communication
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, principals, and teachers
- Create and maintain professional relationships
- Present information clearly
- Other
- Participate in professional development activities
- Maintain accurate records and reports
- Attend faculty meetings and assist in staff committees
- Be active in faculty meetings and assist in staff committees as required
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise and oversee Teacher's Aide
- Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; special education endorsements for assignments or enrollment in an Uplift-approved certification course preferred
- Experience: Previous teaching experience a plus
- Required Skills/Abilities
- Communication Skills: Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Bilingual Skills: Spanish speaking a plus
- Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook); ability to use basic office equipment; ability to learn and use other software as necessary
- Safety Duties & Responsibilities
- Know safety rules and procedures; teach them to others; recognize unsafe actions and situations; warn others of unsafe situations; react to emergencies; report hazardous or unsafe practices
- Physical Demands
- Sit and talk or listen frequently
- Reach with hands and arms frequently
- Stand, walk, and use stairs occasionally
- Lift and/or move up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Close, distance, and depth vision; ability to adjust focus
- Work Environment
- Noisy environment with frequent interruptions
- Distracting activity from other employees and students
- Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable
- Eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization
- High Needs Subject Stipend: $4,500
- Starting Salary: $63,000
