Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare educational materials and displays for the classroom with the assistance of the classroom teacher.
- Aid in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom setting.
- Help keep track of administrative records and reports.
- Assist substitute teachers with classroom layout and other classroom management tasks.
- Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
- Support small group or individual learning activities as directed by the teacher.
- Assist physically disabled students with tasks such as transferring to and from wheelchairs, feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
- Manage student behavior, including handling crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous students as needed.
- Show interest in and take responsibility for each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Oversee students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, during lunchtime, bus rides, and playground duty.
- Provide advice to the teacher regarding the special needs or issues of individual students.
- Ensure confidentiality of student information.
- Enhance job skills through participation in staff development programs as assigned.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Maintain accurate Time & Effort documentation of program activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate or ability to obtain one.
- Experience working with children.
- Capable of working with children with disabilities.
- Ability to read, analyze, and apply common sense understanding.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Competence in using Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and use computer software as necessary.
- Ability to use basic office equipment.
- Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
- Eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.
Starting Pay
$19.80/hr
