Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare educational materials and displays for the classroom with the assistance of the classroom teacher.
  • Aid in maintaining class neatness and order.
  • Assist in managing administrative records and reports.
  • Support substitute teachers with classroom layout and other classroom management tasks.
  • Help manage inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Participate in small group or individual learning activities as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist physically disabled students with needs such as transferring to and from wheelchairs, feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Manage student behavior, handle crisis situations, and restrain disruptive or dangerous students as needed.
  • Show interest and responsibility for each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Oversee students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, during lunch, on the bus, and at the playground.
  • Advise the teacher on special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Ensure confidentiality.
  • Enhance job skills through participation in staff development programs.
  • Attend faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate Time & Effort documentation of program activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Capable of working with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and apply common sense understanding.
  • Ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and use computer software as necessary.
  • Ability to use basic office equipment.
  • Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
  • Eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Starting Pay

$19.80/hr
