About the role
Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy seeks a Lower School Special Education Teacher.
Responsibilities
- Teach students with special educational needs following specialized instructional strategies.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Implement Response to Intervention (RTI) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school leaders to support students' academic and social-emotional growth.
- Ensure compliance with state and district policies regarding Special Education.
- Participate in state testing and align teaching methods with Louisiana State Standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education.
- 3+ years of experience working with special education students in a school setting.
- Strong knowledge of Special Education instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction, curriculum modifications, and assessment adaptations.
- Experience with IEP development and implementation.
- Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RTI), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and relevant legal policies.
- Familiarity with state and district compliance requirements and the process of uploading IEPs to the Student Education Record (SER) website.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other educators, parents, and school administrators.
- Preferred certification or interest in obtaining certification in multiple areas related to Special Education.
