Special Education Teacher (2026 - 2027)

About the role

Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy seeks a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree teacher certified in Special Education.

Responsibilities

• Teach special education students in a self-contained setting.
• Show strong knowledge of Special Education instructional strategies including differentiated instruction, modification of curriculum and assessments, and implementation of student accommodations.
• Have experience with IEP development and implementation.
• Show knowledge of Response to Intervention (RTI), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and current legal policies regarding Special Education.
• Show familiarity with state and district compliance requirements and the ability to upload IEPs to the SER website.
• Collaborate with various teachers, parents, and school leaders to advocate for students.
• Show knowledge of State testing and Louisiana State Standards.
• Show certification or interest in achieving certification in multiple areas.

Requirements

3+ years’ experience with special education students in a self-contained setting is preferred.

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of Special Education instructional strategies including differentiated instruction, modification of curriculum and assessments, and implementation of student accommodations.

Skills

Experience with IEP development and implementation.
