About the role

The Special Education Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation of special education services in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations. The coordinator supports school administrators, teachers, and related service providers in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitoring student progress, and ensuring services are delivered in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and facilitate Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings within required district, state, and federal timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Maintain accurate and timely recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Organize, monitor, and support case manager responsibilities.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to teachers, administrators, and IEP teams.
  • Collaborate with district and building instructional staff.
  • Communicate proactively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and district personnel.
  • Assist the school leadership team with school operations, climate initiatives, and instructional leadership activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible or hold certification as a Teacher of Special Education K-12.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant certification as a related service provider.
  • Master's Degree in Special Education or School Leadership, preferred.
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Protection Registry in the State of Delaware.
  • Knowledge and skills in working with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to support students who require help with physical positioning and self-care.
  • Proficient in Technology, such as Microsoft and Google Applications, Classlink, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc.
  • Shows evidence of knowledge regarding evidence and research-based strategies known to be effective in promoting student learning and achievement for students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
