About the role
Aids in delivering educational services outlined in students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSPs) within RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.
Responsibilities
- Able to facilitate 1:1, 1:2, and small group instruction while addressing the needs of complex learners.
- Includes academic and social opportunities throughout the day, such as lunch, recess, hallway transitions, and breaks with peers and transportation.
- Facilitates classroom setup, individual student areas, and prepares materials for specialized instruction.
- Collects relevant data and performs data entry.
- Assists in assembling and hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeps displays current.
- Operates standard school equipment like computers, laminators, copiers, audiovisual equipment, etc.
- Fulfills the day-to-day schedule of students.
- Communicates professionally with students, staff, and the school community.
- Follows complex educational and behavioral treatment plans and finds solutions within legal and methodological frameworks.
- Works collaboratively with Special Education Teachers, BCBA, Clinicians, and school administration.
- Provides instruction in RISE/DT classrooms with Special Education Teachers, including 1:1, 1:2, and small group settings in RISE/DT and General Education classrooms.
Qualifications
- Three years postsecondary education and/or 90 credit hours of approved study in a related area, including three years of work experience in the field.
- Required for Education Technician III certification by Maine DOE and School Based Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification.
- Previous work experience in child care and/or education is preferred.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Willingness to advocate for inclusion of RISE students within the General Education setting.
