About the role

The Exeter School District seeks paraprofessionals to serve as Instructional Aides. These roles involve supporting students who receive special education services in various capacities.

Responsibilities

  • Aid students with activities of daily living.
  • Support students' learning and life skills using developmentally and age-appropriate materials and assistive technology.
  • Assist with physical needs such as lifting, feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Supervise non-instructional areas like lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, and corridors.
  • Accompany students to related arts programming, special services, and non-academic settings.
  • Administer student progress monitoring and assist with academic tasks based on lesson plans.
  • Document student learning and performance while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in behavioral management to ensure a safe and orderly classroom environment.
  • Prepare materials on an as-needed basis and assist with teacher preparation.
  • Attend professional development and staff meetings as assigned.
  • Follow safety rules and procedures governing assistance for students with disabilities or special needs.

Requirements

  • Experience working as a paraprofessional and with students who have significant behavioral challenges is preferred.
  • Candidates must be eligible for paraeducator certification through NHDOE.

Qualifications

  • Registered Behavior Technician Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to carry out instructions and perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and software applications.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish supportive and compassionate relationships with students with special needs.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Skills

  • Knowledge of assistive technology and its use in educational settings.
  • Ability to manage and monitor student behavior effectively.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
