About the role

Aids in delivering educational services outlined in students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSPs) within RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate 1:1, 1:2, and small group instruction, addressing academic and social needs throughout the day.
  • Implement and follow IEPs and PBSPs.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies throughout the day.
  • Set up classroom and individual student areas, prepare materials for specialized instruction.
  • Collect and enter relevant data.
  • Assemble and hang materials on bulletin boards, keeping displays current.
  • Operate standard school equipment such as computers, laminators, copiers, audiovisual equipment, etc.
  • Follow the day-to-day schedule of students.
  • Communicate professionally with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Provide instruction in RISE/DT classrooms under the guidance of Special Education Teachers.

Qualifications

  • Three years of postsecondary education and/or 90 credit hours of approved study in a related field.
  • Required for Education Technician III certification and School-Based Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification.
  • Previous work experience in child care and/or education is preferred.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships and communicate clearly with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Willingness to advocate for inclusion of RISE students within the general education setting.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to follow district requirements and School Committee policies.
