Special Assets Senior Portfolio Manager - Leveraged and Corporate Finance

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite all credit requests, including new requests and credit decisioning within assigned portfolios.
  • Recommend credit structures balancing quality and profitability within assigned geographies.
  • Ensure adherence to risk philosophy, risk appetite, and lending strategies while maintaining high client responsiveness.
  • Analyze financial statements and navigate diverse financial structures and credit scenarios.
  • Ensure commercial lending activities comply with Truist's policies and procedures.
  • Build effective relationships with Risk Management and client managers.
  • Independently manage a classified loan portfolio with complex credit structures, including syndicated corporate, leveraged finance, and middle-market exposures with elevated risk profiles.
  • Develop, interpret, and challenge advanced analytical financial models (e.g., financial projections, discounted cash flow analysis, enterprise valuation, historical and projected cash flow analysis) to support credit decisioning, restructuring strategies, and downside risk assessment.
  • Serve as the primary point of coordination and analysis for complex credit situations, engaging with internal stakeholders and external restructuring professionals (e.g., legal counsel, financial advisors, investment bankers).
  • Assign, support, and document risk grades for assigned exposures in accordance with Bank policy, regulatory guidance, and supervisory expectations, ensuring accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Prepare and maintain required reporting related to impairment analysis, accrual status justification, criticized loan asset reporting, and other regulatory or management reporting with a focus on precision and compliance.
  • Support the commercial lending process through underwriting, policy knowledge, credit structuring, and risk assessment for large and complex segments within wholesale lending or specialty lines of business.
  • Ensure credit request packages are complete, accurate, and thoroughly documented.
  • Analyze and/or recommend adjustments to financial statement spreads.
  • Interact with clients verbally and in writing regarding pending loan requests or portfolio management actions.
  • Understand and articulate all Truist Wholesale Credit policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Recommend credit within the Bank's risk appetite and document exceptions when appropriate.
  • Apply specialized underwriting skills for Commercial and Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, SBA lending, and other product offerings.
  • Exercise prudent credit judgment through individual loan authority, if applicable.
  • Engage in the development of teammates by coaching and mentoring on underwriting, policy, credit structuring, risk identification, and utilization of lending authority.
  • Effectively manage a team of Portfolio Managers, if applicable.
  • Stay abreast of changing business and economic developments impacting the loan portfolio, profitability, risk management, and banking in general.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and related training.
  • Ten or more years of experience in commercial lending and/or credit experience.
  • Comprehensive commercial lending, underwriting, and regulatory knowledge.
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of financial and cost accounting principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or equivalent financial industry training.
  • RMA - Credit Risk Certification.
  • Proficiency in commercial lending systems.
