About the role

The Processing Technician is responsible for the daily activities of the Central Sterile Processing Department, which includes all aspects of the decontamination and sterilization processes.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload
• Demonstrates understanding of ethylene oxide sterilization process in ensuring that sterility is achieved and determines that items are safe to handle and use
• Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment
• Identifies criteria for selecting method of disinfection and/or sterilization by following manufacturer’s recommendations
• Maintains the appropriate working condition of equipment utilized in direct patient care
• Reviews sterilizer performance tests and completes required documentation

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Maintains current SPD Technician Certification per state regulations
• Maintains membership with a recognized Central Sterile Association
• Successful completion of site personnel general orientation
• Successful completion of department specific orientation
