Responsibilities

• Operational Leadership
  • Ensure on-time availability of supplies and instrumentation for surgical and clinic procedures
  • Oversee appropriate and timely processing of sterile items and sterile supply (soft goods) availability according to established PAR levels
  • Ensure sterile processing functions comply with regulatory and hospital standards, and internal policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with SPD, Periop, and Clinic leadership to ensure processes are relevant and reflect best practices
  • Create or validate daily assignments for sterile processing staff
  • Responsible for timekeeping for the respective shift
  • Provide supervision in the absence of the SPD Manager
• Staff Supervision
  • Plan and supervise activities of the Sterile Processing & Distribution (SPD) team and perioperative and clinic flow
  • Lead staff meetings and ensure educational presentations are relevant
  • Participate in interviewing and recommendations for hire/retention
  • Ensure successful orientation for new hires
  • Counsel staff, provide coaching and feedback, and complete annual evaluations and corrective actions in a timely manner
• Staff Leadership
  • Maintain a positive environment to support staff morale, retention, and productivity
  • Ensure preceptors' skills match the needs of new staff for successful orientation
  • Monitor staff competency standards on an annual basis
  • Assist staff in understanding employment rules, regulations, and responsibilities
• Resource Management
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective resource management, including staffing, supplies, equipment, and instrumentation
  • Assure compliance with policies and protocols for SPD activities
  • Provide input for protocol and policy formulation and revision
  • Validate record-keeping in accordance with hospital and regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO, OSHA)
  • Manage timely preventive maintenance for instrumentation and equipment
  • Assist in managing instrument and equipment repair/replacement protocols
  • Monitor best practices to ensure optimal quality in all SPD functions and behaviors
• Fiscal Responsibility
  • Demonstrate fiscal and operational accountability
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SPD requirements

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
• Certification as either Certified Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) is required
• Additional certification of either Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) or Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) is preferred

Pay

Expected starting pay range: $56,846.40 – $72,488.00. Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on-call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.
