About the Role
Manage daily project activities of Special Projects Division (SPD) staff and stakeholders for multiple projects of various sizes and complexity or individual larger projects. Take an active role in business development to support growth of the SPD within the Business Unit.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strategic project management plans for SPD projects, outlining objectives, timelines, budgets, resources, and milestones.
- Lead meetings with project stakeholders (e.g., clients, architects, general contractors) and staff to confirm and execute project plans, activities, and schedules.
- Oversee team activities and task completion in alignment with project schedules.
- Engage with the Business Unit’s Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) department to develop project-specific safety plans.
- Drive enforcement of safety protocols among project staff, subcontractors, and stakeholders, including participation in inspections, daily huddles, and safety pre-plan meetings.
- Oversee project budgets to achieve or exceed targeted earnings, align resources, mitigate risks, and keep management informed.
- Foster an environment of inclusion, diversity, open communication, teamwork, and collaboration within the extended project team.
- Engage with existing and potential clients to secure business development opportunities for SPD growth.
- Review and understand project contract risks and obligations (e.g., notice provisions, right to stop work) and develop risk mitigation plans.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team to prepare strategic RFP responses, including cost estimates, studies, bids, and business terms.
- Communicate and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for project management, deliverables, procurement, and quality control.
- Collaborate with Estimating and participate in preconstruction to develop scopes of work for trade packages and create project logistics plans.
- Review bid recording sheets to determine bid awards and create Purchase Orders (POs) or submit to Procurement for issuance.
- Oversee, review, and negotiate subcontractor change orders and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
- Provide input into roles and responsibility matrices for each project and review with team members to establish clear expectations.
- Utilize the Last Planner System (LPS) to identify process improvements and implement best practices and lessons learned.
- Oversee accuracy and quality of project deliverables, closeout documentation, pay applications, and account receivables.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate the SPD master project schedule with stakeholders to confirm contractual obligations.
- Conduct meetings to review procurement, engineering, and field activities and update the master project schedule.
- Document project events, schedules, and risks, and communicate impacts to the project schedule with the owner.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
- Working knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles and techniques.
- Ability to interpret general and subcontract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
- Thorough knowledge of project-specific engineering procedures, including document control, submittal management, RFIs, material samples, cost changes, and change orders.
- Business acumen and understanding of business operations.
- Proven construction project management skills, including budget development and management.
- Experience building client relationships to secure new business opportunities.
- Diplomatic problem-solving approach with active listening skills to understand audience needs and develop collaborative solutions.
- Supervisory skills to delegate work and direct teams.
- Negotiation skills with the ability to influence decision-making and outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to collaborate across organizational levels.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for various audiences.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $115,000 – $154,000 USD annualized.
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and use of hands to handle tools or controls.
- Regular use of computer monitors and keyboards, requiring close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction.
- Regular mobility and occasional travel, both short and long distances, via various conveyances.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- Regular work in an office or remote setting with quiet to moderate noise levels.
- Regular work at construction sites with exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
- Moderate to loud noise levels at construction sites.
- Compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws is required.
