Spanish/English Home Health Aides

Duties and Responsibilities

• Take vital signs for e.g. temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate
• Assist in Activities of Daily Living such as assisting with bathing, eating, dressing, and walking.
• Turn and position bedridden patients to prevent breakdown of their skin.
• Change bed linens.
• Record the amount of oral intake and measure urinary output.
• Assist with oral medications.
• Assist in changing non-sterile dressings (bandages).
• Supply and empty bedpans.
• Give emotional support to patients and family members as needed.
• Keep a record of the care given.
• Record and report any changes in the patients condition, environment, or any concerns to the RN, LPN, and/or Schedule Coordinator.
• Follow infectious disease precautions and universal precautions to prevent the spread of organisms.
• Provide light housekeeping as needed.

• The ability to read a map and probably drive a car
• Flexibility and the ability to improvise
• Patience, honesty, good health, the willingness, and ability to follow directions

Physical Requirements

• Spends a lot of time walking and moving about
• Uses Body Mechanics all the time

Qualifications

• A HHA must have successfully completed a basic training program in home health aide services and possess a certificate of completion approved by the New York State Department of Health or New York State Department of Education.
