Sous Chef

About the role

We are seeking individuals who can embody our mission to enrich the lives of those we serve through Hospitality, Excellence, Appreciation, Respect & Teamwork. In this role, you will support the kitchen operations under the guidance of the Executive Chef.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals from standardized recipes in a timely and attractive manner.
• Set up food service line and workstations with necessary condiments.
• Ensure all condiments and garnishes are prepared and served with the appropriate foods.
• Cook, Lead Cooks, Prep Cooks, and Utility Workers as needed.
• Participate in a pre-meal meeting with food servers to review the daily menu details.
• Aid in the coordination of prep for the following day’s menu.
• Aid in the training of new kitchen employees.
• Aid in the scheduling of employees within the department.
• Aid in food ordering, inventory management, and menu cycle creation.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and adhere to state and local health department codes.
• Manage food waste and utilize proper food storage and recycling techniques.
• Monitor and rotate food supplies and ensure all perishables are labeled, dated, and stored correctly.
• Manage and supervise Cooks, Lead Cooks, Prep Cooks, and Utility Workers as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience working in a commercial kitchen environment or a related certificate or degree from a college or technical school.
• Serv Safe or equivalent local, county, or state certifications.
• Organized and effective communicator with co-workers and residents.
• Pride in the quality and presentation of food prepared.
• Basic to advanced knowledge of cooking and preparation of meals.
• Thorough understanding of food service techniques and requirements.
