About the role
The Benson Hotel & Faculty Club, nestled within the dynamic UC Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, is a boutique hotel where innovation meets rejuvenation. This position manages the kitchen staff in the daily production, preparation, and presentation of all food for the hotel's restaurant(s) and room service, ensuring a safe, sanitary, and profitable operation that meets all standards and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food production, preparation, and presentation for restaurant(s) and room service.
- Monitor and control food and labor costs; prepare reports, charts, and schedules to ensure budgets are met or exceeded while maintaining quality.
- Assist the Executive Chef in creating and implementing menu and production changes.
- Manage human resources in the kitchen, including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, conducting performance reviews, and recommending discipline or termination as needed.
- Schedule and manage the maintenance and sanitation of the kitchen, equipment, and related areas to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
- Promote the Accident Prevention Program to minimize liabilities and related expenses.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent.
- One to two full years of experience in a related position, either with this company or another organization.
- Advanced knowledge of food service principles and practices, including management of people, complex problems, and food and beverage operations.
Physical Demands
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying (e.g., food, small equipment) up to 75% of the time, primarily due to banquet production.
- Bending of the knees (e.g., using lower ovens) 5-10 times per day.
- Full range of mobility, including traveling 30-50 feet regularly throughout the day.
- Continuous standing during preparation, service hours, or expediting, often all day.
- Ability to hear equipment timers and communicate with staff.
- Ability to visually ensure product preparation meets standards.
- Moderate to excellent comprehension and literacy for reading records, special requests, budgets, and reports.
Work Environment
- 100% indoor work during an 8-hour shift.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures: freezer temperatures as low as -10 degrees and front-line temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.

Pay
USD $55,000.00 - USD $60,000.00 per year.
