Sous Chef
About the role
Otterbein is seeking a Sous Chef to help manage the overall dining experience of the campus. The position will manage all daily operations, including overall direction of kitchen staff, in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the activities of the kitchen staff and monitor all food production and presentation.
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance and provide feedback to the Executive Chef.
- Mentor culinary staff as needed.
- Train and assist staff in proper procedures and policies.
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed.
- Contribute to menu and recipe development.
- Oversee the dining experience of the Long-Term Care Neighborhood.
- Work side-by-side and hands-on with the Executive Chef.
- Create and manage staff schedules.
- Oversee inventory management.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local food and safety regulations.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and strong leadership skills.
Flexible hours and a wide degree of creativity and latitude are expected.
Requirements
- Understand the use and maintenance of various kitchen equipment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
- Excellent record of kitchen and staff management.
- ServSafe certification.
- 2 to 5 years of cooking experience in Long-Term Care (LTC) or a similar setting preferred.
A degree in Culinary Science or a related certificate is a plus.
