About the role
The Sound and Lighting Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining audio and lighting equipment for live events, performances, productions, and installations outside of the school day. This role ensures high-quality sound and visual presentation by preparing equipment, managing cues during events, and troubleshooting technical issues in real time. You are responsible for coordinating with staff for Nashua School District events, as well as vendors for events held outside the district.
Responsibilities
- Audio Set up, test, and operate sound equipment including microphones, mixers, speakers, monitors, wireless systems, and recording devices.
- Mix audio during rehearsals and live events to ensure clear, balanced sound.
- Conduct sound checks with performers, speakers, and production teams.
- Diagnose and resolve audio issues quickly to maintain show quality.
- Maintain and store audio equipment safely and efficiently.
- Lighting Set up, focus, and operate lighting equipment such as spotlights, moving heads, LED fixtures, dimmers, and control consoles.
- Program lighting cues based on the needs of the event, show, or director.
- Perform lighting checks to ensure proper color, intensity, and timing.
- Troubleshoot lighting malfunctions during setup and live operation.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of lighting rigs and control systems.
- General / Production Work closely with directors, stage managers, event coordinators, and performers to meet artistic and technical requirements.
- Follow production schedules, cue sheets, and technical plans.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational protocols.
- Assist with load-in, setup, and teardown of technical equipment.
- Maintain organized documentation for equipment, inventory, and repairs.
Qualifications
- Experience with audio and lighting systems in live performance, theatre, broadcast, or events.
- Proficiency with sound boards (analog/digital) and lighting consoles.
- Knowledge of signal flow, DMX, cabling, and basic electrical safety.
- Ability to troubleshoot under pressure during live events.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift and move equipment and work at heights when necessary.
