About the role
Provides personal care and professional excellence by performing all ultrasound techniques and examinations, including abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecology scans, vascular and Doppler studies, and other anatomical areas as required, along with minor surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Consistently demonstrates competence in performing all ultrasound techniques and examinations, with special attention to obstetrics and gynecology scans and minor procedures.
- Demonstrates skill and knowledge in the use of all standard ultrasound equipment and a solid foundation in ultrasound theory.
- Ensures that an adequate clinical history is available to correlate with the ultrasound examination to be performed; consults with others as necessary to obtain a complete clinical history.
- Demonstrates competence in all areas of ultrasound positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors; operates all ultrasound equipment and can select and modify technical factors as needed.
- Checks patient’s identification before any procedure is performed; verifies information with the requisition and patient chart.
- Thoroughly explains the procedure about to be performed to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety; addresses patient concerns and communicates the nature of the ultrasound procedure.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School or GED (Required).
- Successful completion/graduation from a diagnostic medical sonography program.
- ARDMS Certified.
- BLS Certified.
