Sonographer

About the role

This position involves providing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and accurate results. The technologist performs a variety of ultrasound procedures independently, adhering to department protocols, and assists with patient preparation, positioning, and equipment setup.

Responsibilities

• Verifies clinician orders, gathers patient history, administers contrast media safely, ensures proper patient identification, reviews images for quality, responds to emergencies, and maintains equipment and infection control standards.
• Patient Care & Communication: Explains procedures using AIDET, addresses patient questions, maintains dignity, and observes patient conditions for physician intervention when necessary.
• Quality & Equipment: Produces acceptable images, performs routine quality control, calibrates and disinfects equipment, and ensures optimal imaging with minimal radiation exposure.
• Operational Duties: Restocks supplies, transports and positions patients, manages documentation, and supports departmental functions, including clerical tasks and maintaining departmental standards.
• Leadership & Training: Mentors fellow sonographers and provides constructive feedback, stepping up in leadership roles when needed.

Qualifications & Skills

Requires a high school diploma or GED, with a diagnostic medical sonography degree preferred. Valid ARDMS or ARRT sonography certification and BLS certification are mandatory. Must have a minimum of 3 years ultrasound experience, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently under pressure, and proficiency in all aspects of ultrasound procedures, including pediatric exams. Flexibility, dependability, and adherence to policies are essential.
