About the role

Cloudera is seeking a Solutions Engineer to join our team. You will utilize your strong technical, business competencies, and customer service skills to provide the highest level of business and technical consultation to sales teams, prospects, and customers to support sales goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of AI concepts and best practices
  • Provide advice in customer use-case discovery and requirements workshops
  • Troubleshoot data science workloads
  • Actively participate within the Cloudera community
  • Create and deliver customer-centric solution designs
  • Present roadmap, vision, proposed architectures, and business outcomes to technical teams
  • Define technical selling approach for accounts
  • Regularly participate in account penetration and success strategy planning with sales counterparts and solutions engineering management
  • Understand core differentiators across the competitive landscape
  • Understand the technology ecosystem
  • Transform customer feedback into actionable product roadmap items
  • Engage in evangelism activities (blogs, meetups, industry events)
  • Mentor associates and participate in the creation and maintenance of enablement materials across the team
  • Contribute to internal and external knowledge repositories

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with the full lifecycle of AI models—from development and testing to production deployment, monitoring, and retraining/versioning
  • Strong experience with AI ecosystems (Agentic AI, Ethical AI solutions, Generative AI solutions, and AI Development Tools like Cursor, CoPilot, and Claude)
  • Experience in AI and/or Data Science use-case development
  • Interest in Data Science and understanding of the difference between Data Engineering and Applied Science
  • Experience as a Solutions Engineer, Pre-Sales Solutions Architect, or similar role, with the ability to listen to customer requirements, whiteboard, propose solution architectures, and demonstrate real business value hands-on
  • 3-5+ years of professional work experience in a similar position
  • Enterprise Software and Big Data experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of challenges in operations, security, and data governance within the enterprise
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical Field
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure (Hardware, Storage, Network), Java/.NET, and SQL
  • Strong Linux skills
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills

Nice to have

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Big Data Ecosystem (HDFS & YARN, Spark, Impala, KUDU, Solr, etc.) and ability to discuss the benefits of a centralized architecture for data management and access
  • Streaming experience (NiFi, Kafka, Flink, Spark, etc.)
  • NoSQL experience (HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.)
  • EDW experience (Teradata, Netezza, GreenPlum, Exadata)
  • Data Science and ML experience (R, Python, Deep Learning Frameworks, etc.)
  • Integration Products experience (Talend, DataStage, Informatica BDM, Qlik, Tableau, Zoomdata, IBM, Oracle, etc.)
  • Ability to thrive in a changing environment
  • Four-year degree (Bachelor's) from an accredited university
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Pay

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is:

  • Massachusetts: $150,000 - $185,000
  • New York: $150,000 - $185,000
  • Connecticut: $150,000 - $185,000

Individual compensation within the published range is determined by the candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and primary work location. In addition to base pay, sales roles are eligible for Cloudera's commission plan, while non-sales roles are eligible for the corporate incentive plan.
