How You Will Make An Impact (Job Summary) SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Application Engineer II you serve as the liaison between external customers and internal departments, the incumbent works in conjunction with sales representatives, sales team, project management, manufacturing, product management, and product engineering. Being a key technical advisor and product advocate, this role fundamentally contributes to build the best practice in product applications through continuous learning and expanding product expertise. What You Can Expect In This Role (Job Responsibilities) While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be: Technical Excellence: Provide technical support to sales representatives, direct account managers, contractors, engineers, end-users and internal departmentsAssist with SPX factory & R&D tours for internal teams and external customers as requiredAdvise and assist field sales personnel and their clients on product technical details, application requirements, etc. to obtain solutions of specific application problemsDeliver technical training support and presentations to internal teams and external customers Determine accurate information and calculations as associated with each sales orderDevelop effective strategies based on thorough analysis of project variables, thus maximizing the likelihood of winning jobs Internal Sales Support Collaborate with sales staff to evaluate project requirements and recommend competitive solutionsCollaborate with internal engineering departments (Ratings, Components, Controls) as necessaryAnalyze RFQ drawing sets and project specifications to provide appropriate scope, site-specific needs, and compliance requirementsSupport proposal development by incorporating wind/seismic considerations, sound requirements, controls requirements, and pricing for other special or custom featuresPrepare accurate, complete submittal documents for timely client deliveryCoordinate order and project information with project manager to ensure smooth and timely handoffAssist with pricing change orders as necessaryRepresent SPX at Trade Shows Customer Support: Serve as the liaison between external customers and internal departmentsAssists customers and potential customers with issues involving SPX product offerings and provide recommendations on solutions to fit their needsEvaluate needs of the customer and provide technical solutions and selections that best fit the company’s product portfolioListen, understand, and convey customer requirementsProvide product support information/ direction from existing manuals, bulletins and guidesRespond to quote requests (functional, technical, and pricing elements) in a timely mannerAssist in pricing special options Documentation and Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities for process improvement and streamlining technical support proceduresAssist product development in developing new and/or enhanced products by communicating trends, needs and issues in the marketplaceParticipate in other duties that relate to the overall goals of the department as assigned What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education) We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has: Required Experience Minimum of 2 years of experience Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Fundamental knowledge in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanicsFamiliarity with HVAC and refrigeration systemsAbility to read engineering drawingsGood understanding of technical and commercial project variables with the ability to proactively initiate action based on that understandingStrong technical aptitudeStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenKnowledge of cooling towers, fluid coolers, dry coolers and adiabatic coolers is a plusFamiliarity with SAP or other ERP systems is a plus Education & Certifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, preferred Travel & Working Environment .
