About the role
The Public Works Department’s Solid Waste Division is seeking a customer service-oriented individual for a seasonal position on the Transfer Station team in Port Townsend.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers in the scale house
- Process cash and credit transactions
- Direct traffic on the tipping floor
- Support safe and efficient operations
Requirements
- Responsible for safely supporting operations at a County transfer station or drop box site
- Process customer transactions, collect fees, inspect incoming waste for prohibited materials, direct traffic during unloading, operate the scale house and equipment such as a forklift, and maintain clean, organized facilities
- Strong customer service skills, attention to safety, and ability to work in an active outdoor environment
- Must be able to stand, walk, and operate tools for up to eight hours per day, occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, and demonstrate good judgment and self-direction
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of: traffic control, manual labor, construction, customer service, and/or cash handling
- Valid WA State Driver’s License (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)

Pay
- Teamsters Grade A4-A position, starting pay typically $23.70 per hour, full pay range: $23.70 to $29.21 per hour
Schedule
- Facility is operated Monday – Saturday
- Flexible scheduling may be provided depending on operational needs
