About the role
The City of Saint Paul is hiring a Solid Waste Services Crew Leader to lead work crews responsible for collecting garbage, yard waste, and bulky items throughout the city. This position combines hands-on field work with crew leadership, equipment oversight, and customer service to help keep Saint Paul clean and operating efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily work assignments for solid waste collection crews.
- Train, orient, and support crew members.
- Complete daily reports and operational documentation.
- Monitor equipment maintenance needs and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Operate garbage trucks, skid steers, and other City vehicles.
- Collect garbage, yard waste, bulky items, and maintain collection routes.
- Deliver, repair, and inventory garbage carts.
- Conduct required vehicle inspections and maintain DOT compliance.
- Respond to resident questions and provide excellent customer service.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to emergencies, overtime, and after-hours service calls as needed.
Qualifications
- Two years of experience as a Solid Waste Services Worker.
- Valid Minnesota Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.
- Clean driving record with no CDL suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses within the past two years.
- Ability to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen and participate in random DOT drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 100 pounds.
