Crew Leader

Job Duties

• Coordinates, organizes, and directs the activities of a crew.
• Works with and directs the work of an assigned team of greenhouse employees on:
• Greenhouse production (planting on moving line, picking up and spacing plants, hanging baskets)
• Plants maintenance (pruning to maintain good quality of plants)
• Plant preparation for shipping (picking and boxing plants)
• General greenhouse housekeeping and upkeep
• Acts as the first point of contact for the assigned crew throughout the day.
• Proactively acts and communicates to ensure smooth operations and effective collaboration within the team and other areas.
• Provides effective guidance on how work orders should be read and fulfilled.
• Aids in the training and guidance of new and existing crew members.
• Provides feedback to management on employee performance and progress.
• Coaches and motivates employees to improve performance and/or behavior.
• Collaborates with coworkers and partners in program design and delivery.
• Escalates concerns regarding employee or resource issues to management.

• Reliable; regular attendance and punctuality are requirements of this position.
• Approachable; able to communicate in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.
• Self-motivated and possesses strong problem-solving skills.
• Willing to work independently; have good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Willing to work evenings, holidays, and occasional weekends as scheduled by supervisor/manager.
• Able to work harmoniously with other employees from a variety of backgrounds.
• Able to stand/walk for 8+ hours, bend/squat, lift up to 20 pounds, push/pull loaded plant carts weighing up to 200 lbs, and adapt to changing working conditions.
• Able to adhere to safety policies and procedures (safety-conscious).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum one-year experience in greenhouse, nursery operations, or horticulture, or related field.
• Minimum six-months of crew lead or supervisory experience.
• Able to speak English; bilingual in Spanish a plus.
