About the role

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $86,634 - $110,000/annually, based on experience and education. Location & Schedule

This position is based at the Central Platte Campus, located at 1271 W. Bayaud Ave. In this position, you can expect to work both on-site and, in the field, as operational needs require.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors responsible for residential solid waste collection operations across multiple service districts, fostering accountability, employee engagement, and leadership growth.
  • Oversee daily collection operations to ensure routes are staffed appropriately, completed efficiently, and aligned with service expectations, productivity goals, and customer needs.
  • Partner with supervisors to address operational challenges, workforce issues, service disruptions, and customer concerns while promoting consistent decision-making and effective problem-solving.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with City, DOTI, and departmental safety standards and supporting ongoing training and development initiatives.
  • Analyze operational performance, route efficiencies, workforce metrics, and service trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enhanced service delivery.
  • Conduct operational audits and reviews to ensure compliance, consistency, quality, and effectiveness across field activities and collection operations.
  • Cookordinate with internal stakeholders, City Council offices, community representatives, and other agencies to address service concerns, operational impacts, and constituent requests.
  • Support emergency response efforts, weather-related operations, and evolving service demands to ensure continuity of essential collection services.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, best practices, and operational strategies that support organizational goals and service excellence.
  • Oversee supervisory personnel activities, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, coaching, and professional development.
  • Assist with budget planning, resource allocation, workforce planning, and equipment utilization to support operational objectives and service delivery needs.
  • Provide operational expertise, strategic recommendations, and technology-driven solutions to support division initiatives, improve efficiencies, and enhance service outcomes.

What you’ll bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Strong knowledge of solid waste operations, route management, workforce deployment, and service delivery best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to navigate difficult conversations, resolve conflict, and build collaborative relationships with employees, leadership, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of City, departmental, and operational policies and procedures, with the ability to apply them consistently and effectively.
  • Proficiency with technology, operational reporting systems, and emerging tools that support data-driven decision-making and operational excellence.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of supervisory experience over employees involved in field operations with regard to construction, maintenance and repair of facilities and infrastructure.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
