Solid Waste Facilities Manager
Accomack County is currently recruiting for the full-time position of Solid Waste Facility Manager I or II in the Public Works Department. The purpose of the position is to manage the operation of one of the County’s Solid Waste facilities.
About the role
Employees in this classification perform both skilled and managerial work. Position is responsible for managing the site budget; training and supervising personnel; ensuring safety; scheduling and assigning equipment maintenance; and preparing a variety of records and reports.
Satisfactory completion of a background check, medical exam including drug screening, and DMV records checks are required prior to employment. DMV records check will be performed annually thereafter.
Responsibilities
- Manage the operation of a County Solid Waste facility

- Operate and maintain heavy equipment
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Five (5) to nine (9) years of experience in heavy equipment operation, maintenance, repair, and managing solid waste operations (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience)
- Prior supervisory experience
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with mobile platform devices
- Valid driver’s license
- Waste Management Facility Operator I and II certifications (required within 18 months of hire)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or higher and/or vocational/technical certification in maintenance and repair or medium/heavy equipment operation
- Ten (10) to fourteen (14) years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience)
Pay
Starting salary $45,244.41. Salary range is $45,244.41 to $58,817.74 per year (based on experience).
