Solid Waste Crewchief (2 Openings) (Blight)

Responsibilities

• Directs small work crew in the collection of garbage, trash, and recyclables.
• Pick up garbage carts, debris, appliances, and dump into truck.
• Drive packer-type truck equipped with hydraulic lifting device to collect garbage and trash on designated routes.
• Transport load to disposal area and operate hydraulic lever to dump load.
• Inspect and check truck equipment such as tires, brakes, and various fluids daily.
• Perform preventive maintenance such as greasing necessary parts and fueling truck and assigned equipment.
• Provide working directions to various crews performing solid waste functions.
• Report unusual situations to management.
• Report code violations dealing with collection of garbage, trash, and recyclables.
• Communicate and report status of routes including start and completion time as well as tonnage.
• Perform additional functions as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and have working experience as a crewperson or truck driver.
• Maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver's License and comply with DOT Alcohol and Drug testing rules.
• May be required to complete a battery of tests to evaluate competencies in operating related equipment.
