Solid Waste Crewchief (14 Openings)

Responsibilities

• Directs small work crew in the collection of garbage, trash, and recyclables.
• Picks up garbage carts, debris, appliances, and dumps into truck.
• Drives packer-type truck equipped with hydraulic lifting device to collect garbage and trash on designated routes.
• Transports load to disposal area and operates hydraulic lever to dump load.
• Inspects and checks truck equipment such as tires, brakes, and various fluids daily.
• Performs preventive maintenance such as greasing necessary parts and fueling truck and assigned equipment.
• Provides working directions to various crews performing solid waste functions.
• Completes assigned routes and reports unusual situations to management.
• Reports code violations dealing with collection of garbage, trash, and recyclables.
• Communicates and reports status of routes including start and completion time as well as tonnage.
• Performs additional functions as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and have working experience as a crewperson or truck driver.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver's License and comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules as a condition of continued employment.
• May be required to complete a battery of tests as deemed appropriate by Human Resources to evaluate competencies in operating related equipment.
