The SolarCorps Fellowship Program is part of the AmeriCorps network of programs. GRID Alternatives’ SolarCorps Fellowship Program offers an 11-month paid service term for highly motivated individuals interested in renewable energy and community development.

Summary of the role

We are seeking a full-time SolarCorps Workforce Development Fellow to support GRID’s workforce development initiatives. The fellow will assist in teaching solar and clean energy workshops, recruit and select trainees, and provide placement support.

What you will be doing

  • Assist in teaching solar and clean energy workshops and labs
  • Attend local events to promote community awareness of GRID’s training programs
  • Absorb trainees, and follow up if needed
  • Participate in solar installations

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 11-month commitment
  • Excellent communication skills and positive representation of GRID Alternatives
  • Comfortable being part of a team
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, and helping families and communities in need
  • Availability for an in-person Mid-Year weeklong Career Readiness Retreat in California
  • Must be fluent in English, both spoken and written
  • Must be able to commute between Juncos and Yabucoa as required
  • Able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work outdoors, on rooftops, and in extreme temperatures

It would be great if you also had

  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Strong computer skills such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite

Benefits and how we take care of you

  • Standard Fellowship Compensation: Full-time, non-exempt position with hourly pay of $21.40 per hour, plus the benefits listed above
  • End of term award: Fellows who complete 1700 hours with GRID and complete their contracted term of service will be eligible for a $3,000 cash end of term award

Where you will sit & the places you may go

The ideal candidate will sit in Juncos, Puerto Rico. This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as org-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
