Solar Technician Apprentice

This position will cover assigned O&M activities associated with the solar PV sites and substations for utility-scale Solar Energy Plants in Spotsylvania, VA and Madison Solar in Orange County. Responsibilities
- Perform and assist with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance for equipment, including but not limited to installed Inverters (SMA, TMIEC, EATON), Trackers (NEXTracker & ATI), Combiner Boxes, PV Modules, DC Collection equipment and systems, AC Collection and Distribution equipment and systems.
- Conduct routine maintenance work such as electrical troubleshooting and repair, instrumentation calibration, and basic Inverter troubleshooting as assigned.
- Assist in preparing and implementing switching and clearance orders.
- Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
- Participate in comprehensive and ongoing training to support professional development.
- Perform and assist with technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a power plant.
- Assist with site vegetation management plans, including operating tractors, riding mowers, and other vegetation maintenance equipment as needed.
- Write and assist with Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions, and other assigned documents.
- Ensure all work follows Environmental and Safety requirements and is appropriately documented.
- Perform work independently or in work crews, depending on skills, experience, and job requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical degree or Solar certification preferred.
- Experience in solar system installation is an asset.
- Basic knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals.
- Understanding of workplace safety and ability to follow safety standards, including LOTO and Electrical Safety.
- Proficiency in operating personal computers and standard business software.
- Experience with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is highly recommended.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.

Working Conditions
- Work outside in a standard solar power plant and office environment, including exposure to high/low ambient temperatures and humidity.
- Physical requirements include standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment for inspections or data collection.
- Use of personal protective safety equipment (FR Clothing, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.).
- May work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
- Ability to work overtime and non-standard hours as required.
- Travel to sites outside the typical area to support regional team members.
- On-call duties at least one week each month unless covered by other team members.
Pay
The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $26.00 and $31.03 per hour. Base pay may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package includes an annual bonus.
