Solar Safety Manager
About the Role
Moss’ Solar Safety Manager (BESS) supports the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team in the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Moss Solar’s EHS programs. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements within an assigned project and leads safety efforts on a project site, with a focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) installation and commissioning.
This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position requiring high travel and frequent physical activity in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions. The role reports to the Regional Safety Manager.
Responsibilities
- Leads EHS functions on a project site and provides direction and oversight of the project EHS team.
- Implements and monitors safety protocols specific to BESS installation and commissioning, including thermal runaway prevention, fire suppression systems, and electrical hazard mitigation.
- Prioritizes, delegates, and completes multiple tasks efficiently.
- Supports the maintenance and implementation of EHS programs, compliance plans, and initiatives on assigned site.
- Leads by influence and strategic partnership with the project and construction team.
- Maintains current safety credentials.
- Evaluates environmental health and safety-related risks and potential EHS-related risks.
- Applies knowledge of record-keeping principles and practices.
- Works independently and collaboratively with attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety (preferred) or greater than 5 years of leadership experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of DOT, DOL, EPA regulations, and OSHA/industrial safety compliance as they relate to the power generation industry.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
- Strong organization and planning skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record; ability to safely drive a company vehicle.
- Proficiency in standard office software programs, including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
Physical demands include regular standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds and may occasionally handle heavier loads with assistance.
