About the role
The Solar Design Manager works closely with the Technical Team, Solar Procurement Managers, and Business Development team to assist in the successful delivery of design deliverables. This role involves leading coordination efforts, completing day-to-day tasks, and supporting the design process as needed.
Responsibilities
- Support development of early-stage projects with conceptual designs.
- Review project documents and identify key technical deliverables, requirements, and/or risks.
- Work with internal team to develop Solar PV design/construction packages including solar array layouts, electrical one-lines, collection systems, and BOQs for Utility Scale Solar PV systems (50-500MW+).
- Develop detailed schematics and drawings for solar PV system following the needed requirements.
- Perform energy yield modelling using PVsyst tool.
- Perform LCoE comparison for the different technology and configurations.
- Aid in the engagement with appointed technical advisors in design, EYA, and review scopes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive solar PV system designs, including array layouts, system sizing, electrical components, and balance of system (BOS) components.
- Conduct thorough technical assessments, feasibility studies, and energy yield predictions for proposed solar PV projects to ensure optimal system performance.
- Provide technical support to project development teams, assisting with project planning, equipment selection, and design optimization to meet project requirements and budget constraints.
- Perform site visits and assessments to gather essential data, evaluate potential project risks, and identify opportunities for project optimization.
- Collaborate with energy storage specialists to integrate energy storage systems with solar PV installations to maximize energy utilization and grid stability.
- Manage the technical discussion with EPC/component suppliers.
- Engage with appointed technical advisors to ensure timely and correct delivery of the required scope.
Skills
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
- A master’s degree is a plus.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, PVCase or other relevant engineering software.
- At least 6 years of design or engineering experience related to renewable energy preferred.
- Prior experience in Utility scale solar PV projects is mandatory.
