Software Quality Engineer
Responsibilities
- Utilize strong software auditing background and NASA domain experience to evaluate target projects to ensure safety and mission success.
- Plan and conduct software process and quality audits of targeted SLS projects to ensure compliance with NASA software engineering and software assurance standards.
- Examine project documentation, process descriptions, and artifacts to verify adherence to CMMI practices.
- Conduct interviews with SLS project members and stakeholders to confirm that processes are understood and followed.
- Identify software risks and risk impacts and recommend improvements to remediate software non-compliances.
- Create associated work products related to process and quality audits.
- Assist the discipline manager and the audit technical lead in tracking the software quality tasks of audited SLS projects.
Requirements
- This position has been posted at multiple levels (must meet minimum level indicated).
- Candidates with 14+ years of recent and related experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Experience with software process audits from an accrediting agency (ISO, CMMI or similar).
- Experience performing software quality, reliability, safety, and testing activities related to embedded software systems with emphasis on quality functions.
- Experience across the software development life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test) and the entry and exit criteria associated with Program/Project milestone reviews.
- Familiarity with development of large, complex, safety-critical software systems.
- Familiarity with software architecture and systems and software engineering practices.
Desired
- Experience witnessing software testing and demonstrations and performing SQA audit.
- Familiarity with NASA flight programs involving Human-related spacecraft / launch vehicle systems and domains such as rocket engine propulsion control; flight dynamics; vehicle system management; fault protection / fault management; launch, flight, and abort operations / processes; software safety; and mission assurance.
- Experience with NASA, Government approved Industry, or DoD software assurance requirements, standards, manuals and handbooks, and assessing compliance with these products.
- Familiarity with Mil-STD-882 for system safety.
- Experience with NASA-STD 7150.2 and NASA-STD 8739.8 and the identification of safety critical software requirements and analysis of related design concepts.
- Experience reviewing and/or developing Software Assurance Plans, Software Requirements Specifications, and Software Test Plans.
Work Location
This position is located onsite; some travel may be required. Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.
